Insurgency Research Group Blog

By David Betz

Some KOW readers may have noticed the recent launch of the blog of the Insurgency Research Group (IRG) here at King’s. The aim of the IRG is to act as a centre of gravity for the community of British  COIN researchers/practitioners which, while relatively sizable, is diffuse and unfocused. The IRG blog, which is being run by King’s graduate Will Hartley, is meant as a vehicle for this community to publicize events, share ideas and socialize  (virtually, so to speak). It’s a bit like KOW only more focussed on insurgency. There will be a bit of cross-posting. KOW is my main blogging ‘gig’ but my insurgency related thoughts will also go to the IRG blog. Anyway, have a look there if you’re interested. Will has a post there on Mountain Runner and Abu Aardvark’s discussion of the Smith-Mundt  act which will be of interest to infowar/public diplomacy types.

Dear Sir/Ms:: I was talking to my ‘holier’ than thou neurologist this morning. He fails to see two, three, many, many sides to a situation. Self-interest runs high in N. America. I am a whitey who happens to work with groups in the dark who do not like the policies in much of Africa, ergot, ‘Somalia’. I am trying to help where I can, and only present health prevents me from being there. I require 2 military aids, a C 150 and a large helicopter for food supplies. Any help? Excuse me, my room has gone dark. ‘Spooky’. Any help would be greatly apreciated. Most Sincerely, Gordon Harold Dowton
