Hello there. Thanks for stopping by. This blog has been created by Dr David Betz as a place where faculty and research students of the Department of War Studies at King’s College London to post their thoughts about War and the World. At the moment its principal contributors are me and Professor Theo Farrell who will no doubt descend from his ivory tower soon to share his wisdom. Others, including some members of our sister department, the Department of Defence Studies at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, may also join us.
A main aim of this blog is to have a space in which students of the Department, particularly our on-line students in MA War in the Modern World, can engage in debate and conversation in a freer, less formal setting. The topics we cover are all war-related (more or less, with a few exceptions) but beyond that there’s not much to be said about what you’ll find here.
At present, we’ve nothing so grand as an editorial policy but we do have some rules.
- Be sensible.
- Be polite.

Excellent idea of yours to concentrate effort in one blog; I have enjoyed contributing (in my own special way) to both of your blogs in the past and look forward to doing so in due course.
Thanks. Your efforts in making our subject accessible go beyond mere obligation and adds enduring value for all. I raise my polystyrene tea cup to you both.
I like the blog’s title by the way. Clever. However, I can’t help thinking that something like ‘Enthusiastic Observers of…’, or similar, might be more accurate!
